Update Rollup 3 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 Service Pack 1 (SP1)
xRM (www.xrm.com) hosts many versions of Microsoft Dynamics CRM to meet its customers’ various needs, including Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 with Service Pack 1 (SP1). We are excited to announce that we will soon be applying Update Rollup 3 to those instances.
Update Rollup 3 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 Service Pack 1 (SP1) officially became available as of Quarter 2, 2015. It introduces fixes to 75 issues, according to the Microsoft knowledge base article (see link below). Additionally, the update contains no hotfixes or updates that must be configured manually.
If you have CRM Online, and have not opted in to upgrade to the 2015 version, you will effectively remain in the 2013 (SP1) version and should automatically get the equivalent code to Update Rollup 3 when Microsoft deploys it to the CRM Online servers. Note that CRM Online has its own code update stream with updates that are similar to, but not necessarily exactly matching the ones described in the knowledge base articles for on-premises and partner-hosted servers. Microsoft typically does not announce its CRM Online updates unless there’s a major version change, such as 2015.

Tip #386: The fastest way to provision new organization
For people who complain that they provision CRM organizations daily, hourly, weekly and cannot relax for 5 minutes while new organization is being created, here the quickest way to provision new CRM on-premises organizations:
One-off preparations
- Go through the pain one last time and watch the paint dry while creating a new organization (name it, say, template).
- Delete the organization.
- In SQL Server Manager, optionally shrink the database template_mscrm, then detach it.
- Find .ldf file, delete it. Find .mdf file, set it aside
Create new organization
- Copy the template_mscrm.mdf into your SQL Server data directory, rename it.
- Attach the database. Remove missing .ldf file, system will recreate it for you.
- Adjust mdf and log file sizes as per David’s advice above.
- In CRM Deployment Manager start the import and use that database.
- 5 seconds later you’ll have your new organization.
Don’t forget to repeat preparations after applying update rollup to the deployment.
If you do, indeed, provision organizations frequently, consider automating the process using Adxstudio ALM Toolkit.
WebSan Solutions Inc. Expands Office Space to Accommodate Business Growth
WebSan Solutions Inc., a cloud Microsoft Dynamics Certified Partner and IT consulting and solutions provider has moved to a new office that offers a bigger and brighter workspace. The new office space will support a significant expansion of WebSan’s team and the growth that the Canadian company is continually experiencing.
The previous office space that the company occupied had limited space which could no longer support the increase in WebSan’s team. As WebSan continues to experience business growth, an expansion in office space was a natural next step to better accommodate the team’s needs and an increase in new clients.
Over the past year, WebSan has acquired a substantial number of new clients and particularly strengthened its Dynamics CRM practice.
“Our team is excited about expanding our office space to accommodate WebSan’s growth. The new office space will not only allow us to better serve our customers, but also reflects our progression as a company,” said Andrew King, Managing Director of WebSan Solutions Inc.

3 critical factors for successfully implementing an ERP system
When selecting and implementing an enterprise resource planning system like Dynamics NAV, several decisive factors must be explored and incorporated to ensure the strategy works. The complex array of features in the planning program can create a logistics nightmare for those trying to use the system to the greatest degree.
Here are three essential factors to focus on to implement a streamlined and cost-efficient ERP system:
- Focus on the key needs
An ERP system places many advanced and complicated functionality tools at the manager's disposal. As such, it can be easy to spend too much time focusing on the trees instead of the forest. Instead of trying to squeeze the most out of every single feature, ProjectManagementTimes recommended managers spend 80 percent of their time ensuring the 20 percent of the features that actually drive business.Financial concerns should drive the system's implementation by serving as limiting factors to what features should and should not be used. This way, the cost element does not become overshadowed by the vast numbers of applications the system provides.
- Realistic budgeting
With financial concerns at the forefront of the system's implementation, be sure to include cost considerations for the very real likelihood of delays or missteps. Most businesses tend to operate under a best-case model with the expectations that their employees will be proficient and knowledgeable enough to accurately utilize any system. However, the complexity and scope of ERP means that there is an extremely good chance that something will go wrong during implementation. Instead of leaving the project underfunded halfway through the process, managers should ensure that some wiggle room exists in the ERP implementation budgeting just in case something goes wrong. ERPFocus recommended boosting the cost estimates by at least 35 percent to guarantee the project has sufficient funding. - The right team
Even though the ERP project should serve a core business function, the company's IT project manager should be intimately involved with the system. An IT employee well-versed in the business application of the system is an ideal project team member, however some companies may not employ an individual with these particular traits. Instead, managers should ensure the team members know the ins and outs of the technical side of the system, as well as the business side.
While implementing an ERP system and successfully utilizing the program can be a frustrating and time-consuming process for many companies, by focusing on a few key needs, crafting a realistic budget and building the right team for the project can help keep employees on the same page to maximize the system.

How to Tag Users and Records in Posts in Dynamics CRM
The ability to tag users in posts is a great collaboration feature in Microsoft Dynamics CRM that many people overlook, but it can actually be a very handy way of updating other users on items of interest.
We’ve all gotten used to the Social Pane where you can keep track of Activities and Notes, but most users end up ignoring the Posts feature. It looks very much like the wall on LinkedIn, and you might ask “What use would that have in CRM?” Most of what users see are the automated Posts generated by the system when a new record is created, or an Opportunity is closed as won. However, by tagging your co-workers in posts that you create yourself, you can start collaborating in CRM in the social pane.
When you make a post on the social pane, it will appear on your page in the What’s New section:
It will show up on your page, and if anyone is following you, it will show up on their What’s New page as well. (If you want to know more about following users or records in CRM, you can refer to our previous blog post.) Even if another user isn’t following you, you can make sure they see your post if you tag them in that post. Tagging users or even other records in a post is easy – all you have to do is type the @ symbol:
Next, you will be presented with a list of possible records based on what you’ve viewed recently in CRM. You can select one of the records listed or click on Look upmore records, which shows you the familiar search dialog box:
After finding the user or record you want to tag, you will see the record’s name in the post displayed in brackets. Now you can write the rest of the text and you can even tag another record:
This post is now visible on your page, on your colleague’s page, and on the page for the tagged opportunity – as shown in the following three pictures.
Your page:
Colleague’s page:
Opportunity’s page:
And remember, you can like and reply to posts as well!
Now you know how to tag users and records in posts in Dynamics CRM and you can start collaborating in the social pane! To learn even more about Dynamics CRM, check out our bevy of Education trainings and events. As always, keep following our blog for more CRM tips and tricks.
Happy CRM’ing!

Women in technology; @Pluralsight walks the walk and talks the talk
A few months ago, while at the Pluralsight Author Summit, they hosted an open Q&A with the founders. The room was full of authors from around the world and many many Pluralsight staff. Aaron, Fritz and Keith are great guys, always have been. And they took all kinds of questions. Then I had my turn. It went something like… Look around this room. We’re surrounded by middle-aged white men. What’s your plan for changing that? (followed by: Could one of the middle-age white men on the stage please address this?).
They candidly acknowledged the issue and were very open in saying they wanted to make a difference and were still struggling with how to do that. They asked for any insight or advice we could offer, women in the room and men in the room.
We are all guilty of going with what we know, it’s the easy path. It’s finding that new path, it’s in the expanding the net for more coverage when looking for new talent, it’s those things that make a difference, those things that make a change. It’s those things that good companies, like Pluralsight, are doing.
It’s the subtle things. It’s giving your women authors great shirts that are cut for women instead of the boxy “uni-sex” (that are actually just men’s shirts, c’mon). It’s staffing your booth at Ignite with a good mix of men and women (I didn’t count, but it was obvious there were plenty of women there).
It’s the bigger things. Releasing a series of women in technology videos. Things that cover the good, the bad and the sometimes odd story of women in tech. I am rather honored to be included in these videos.
No woman wants to be hired simply because she’s a woman. She wants to be hired because she is qualified for the task at hand.
I heard a scary statistic the other day, and I wish I had a good source to back it up, but cannot find it. It stated that men are promoted based on their potential and women are promoted based on their accomplishments. That’s a big scary problem.
What’s your part? It can be as easy as sending your business to companies like Pluralsight. You can become one of the women authors at Pluralsight. You can become an activist. You can simply continue working hard and rewarding equally based on merit, keeping an eye out for incidental sexism and stomping it out.

Worker cannot be deleted while dependent Position worker assignments exist. Delete dependent Position worker assignments and try again
"Worker cannot be deleted while dependent Position worker assignments exist. Delete dependent Position worker assignments and try again"
Currently in order to fix this you need to do the following
Step 1
FWM/Human resources/Common/Organization/Positions/Positions
Find the worker name > edit the record > go to Worker assignment > End > choose a date time that has already happened unless you want to wait for the nightly job
Step 2
FWM/Human resources/Common/Workers/Workers
Find the worker name > edit the record > employment (menu on left side) > Employment details > edit > change employment end date to same time as the one listed in step 1. Once you hit ok the record will be removed
I didn't get a chance to test this but executing step 2 might actually execute step 1 as well. I just don't have any more records atm that I can verify this on.

Becoming a Social CIO: Why It Matters
Fifteen years ago, if someone asked if you were social, the question would have meant that you were friendly and outgoing. Today, people use the term to refer to a person’s level of expertise with social media.
Although many business leaders have embraced social media with open arms, some of their peers still view it as a consumer tool without applications for the enterprise. This attitude is out of date. Moreover, it can actually hurt a company.

Cache display methods in AX 2012
However, developers often write display or edit methods to perform some calculations and then bind them on form's controls to allow user to display or edit values in those bounded controls.
Display/Edit methods create excessive client-server round trips and impact on product performance. And if there are display methods added on the form it will make 5 client-server round trips, one for each method.
Options 1: CacheAddMethod
This issue can be addressed by using the CacheAddMethod on the FormDataSource. This method enables the form to calculate all of the display methods in single round trip to the server rather making individual calls.
Let's assume you have added edit method on ProjTable form to show some calcuated dates. Override init() method under ProjTable datasource and write following code;
publicvoid init()
{
super();
ProjTable_ds.cacheAddMethod(tableMethodStr(ProjTable, projectCompletedDate), false);
}
Options 2: SysClientCacheDataMethodAttributeAttribute's constructor accept one optional parameter (_updateOnWrite), which corresponds to the second parameter of cacheAddMethod().
Example:
[SysClientCacheDataMethodAttribute(true)]
display DirPartyType type()
{...}
[SysClientCacheDataMethodAttribute]
publicdisplay EcoResProductTitle title()
{
return inventTable.product().title();
}
AX 2012 introduces a new feature called the Declarative Display caching. This allows you to enable caching by setting the form control property CacheDataMethod with either of three values; Yes, No and Auto
