ArcherPoint Dynamics NAV Developer Digest – vol 65
Editor's Note: ArcherPoint remembers all those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and their families.
The ArcherPoint technical staff—made up of developers, project managers, and consultants—is constantly communicating internally, with the goal of sharing helpful information with one another.
As they run into issues and questions, find the answers, and make new discoveries, they post them companywide on Yammer for everyone’s benefit. We in Marketing watch these interactions and never cease to be amazed by the creativity, dedication, and brainpower we’re so fortunate to have in this group—so we thought, wouldn’t it be great to share them with the rest of the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Community? So, the ArcherPoint Microsoft Dynamics NAV Developer Digest was born. Each week, we present a collection of thoughts and findings from the ArcherPoint staff. We hope these insights will benefit you, too.
Crystal Hill and Jon Long teamed up to answer a question on how to handle blank spaces showing instead of the column name:
When creating a new field in RTC (NAV 2009-2015), you may run across the issue where a blank space is showing instead of the column name for selection.
Figure 1 – Blank space showing instead of column name in Column Selection
To update this blank space complete the following steps
- Open the Page you are updating
- Find the column that is not showing on your report
Figure 2 – Locate the column
- Highlight the line and select properties
Figure 3 – Highlight and select the line
- You will see the CaptionML field is blank, this needs to be updated for your caption to show on your list
- Select the line and press the ellipsis
Figure 4 – Edit CaptionML field
- In the following screen you will need to input your country code and the name you want to see as your column name
Figure 5 – Select country code and enter the column name
- Click OK
- Close and Compile your Page.
- Close Navision
- Depending on your version you may need to restart the service to see this update take effect
You will now see the field in your list of available columns
Dan Sass shared an article on exceptional companies and their cultures:
Let’s face it, exceptional companies are few and far between…but they’re possible. This article ties those companies that perform well to their values and processes and offers three key insights these companies possess in order to reach that high performance.
From the article:
"Organizations that are able to set very clear and aligned values and processes will consistently outperform those that cannot. Furthermore, leaders who understand when it’s time to do things differently in order to stay relevant are those that are best able to adapt their organizations to changes in the business environment."

Suzanne Scanlan shared an infographic on how advertising influences us to buy:
We’ve all seen advertisements – some we like, some we don’t – but what is it about them that allows the advertiser to get into our heads and cause us to buy their product when, just moments before, we had no interest in (or, sometimes, no knowledge of) its existence.
As this article points out, research now shows that most people lose concentration after eight seconds (one second less than a goldfish!). This infographic breaks down some basic advertising concepts and makes them easy to understand.
