The problems using Dynamics NAV with Windows 10 will be solved in the upcoming Microsoft Dynamics NAV2016 release.
Since Windows 10 was released in July there have been a few compatibility issues using Dynamics NAV versions including NAV 2013, 2013 R2, and 2015 with Windows 10, according to a recent article by Linda Rosencrance. Windows 10 compatibility issues in older versions of NAV are expected to be resolved by October’s cumulative updates.
“While older versions of Dynamics NAV have some problems running on Windows 10 now, NAV MVP Aleksandar Totovic said he doesn’t think they’re major issues,” said Rosencrance. “In a blog post earlier this month, he wrote that most, if not all, of the problems occurred if Windows 10 wasn’t installed from scratch.”
While this is the silver lining, a large portion of NAV users who are existing Windows customers are looking to upgrade to Windows 10 and not install it from scratch. But, installing Windows 10 from scratch seems to be the best work-around if your are insisting on using 10. Windows 10 did fix a number of the problems experienced in Windows 8.
Moving forward all of the problems between NAV and Windows 10 should be solved in the next version with the Dynamics NAV2016 release.
Here are some of the other features to expect in the Dynamics NAV 2016 release:
- Better integration to O365 and Power BI
- Native Integration to CRM Online
- Improved cloud compatibility for customers, partners and developers
- Improved agility to allow improved access from any device including mobile
- Electronic invoicing and optical character recognistion
- Enhanced accounting functionality
- Workflow enhancements to improve customized automation around billing, HR and Payroll, financials and other critical functions
