Often users are interested in knowing the first date an event has occurred or the latest date an event has occurred. As an example, say invoice records are being stored in CRM and users would like to see on the Account form the first date for an invoice and the most recent date for an invoice for either that specific account or that account and all related (child) accounts.
With the new rollup feature, this is relatively easy to set up:
- Create a custom field, perhaps something like “Last Invoice Date This Account”. Make sure the field is a “Date Only” field and that the Field Type is “Rollup”.
- In the Rollup field configuration, set the Aggregation to “MAX of Invoice Date”.
- If you want to have this field reflect the latest invoice date from all related accounts, then set “Use Hierarchy” to YES.
- To capture the earliest invoice date, the setup is the same except use “MIN” for Aggregation.
