38150483_lMicrosoft Dynamics’ line of ERP software has established itself as one of the leading options on the market. One of the reasons for this is the fact that Dynamics is as much a platform as application, a foundation on which to build. The Dynamics community has risen to the occasion, creating a plethora of impressive add-ons that extend the basic functionality of the various Dynamics lines.

In a previous article, we highlighted some of the top add-ons for Dynamics GP. In this installment, let’s take a look at some of the best add-ons for Dynamics NAV.

Easy Ship

For companies whose business revolves around shipping products, few add-ons are as valuable as Easy Ship. Easy Ship is designed to connect to PaceJet, a cloud-based shipping application.

“Easy Ship Standard allows companies to quickly, easily and affordably ship packages out of Microsoft Dynamics NAV record tracking numbers and import freight charges, while having PaceJet, the leader in cloud-based shipping systems, handle label printing and communicating with the carriers.”

Nav-to-Net

Given that one of NAV’s main focus is retail, it’s no surprise that many customers use NAV in their e-commerce operations. To aid those customers, Nav-to-Net bills itself as “truly integrated e-commerce for Dynamics NAV.”

“Nav-to-Net enables business agility through rapid, reliable e-commerce transactions, and is a seamlessly integrated webshop solution designed to leverage the value of Microsoft Dynamics NAV. As a B2B, B2C, and B2E ready solution, Nav-to-Net can manage e-commerce websites entirely within NAV and takes integrated e-commerce to a new level with loads of efficiency features, enabling you to take your business online simply and effectively.

Features of Nav-to-Net include:

  • Product comparisons
  • Store locator
  • Price / Availability alerts
  • Multi-dimensional products and variants
  • Dropped cart tracking

Shop Floor Control

Another market where NAV is widely used is manufacturing. In spite of this, NAV does not have detailed start and stop reporting. That’s where Shop Floor Control comes in.

“With SFC 2.0 you gain an incredible amount of added control and functionality, compared to running stand-alone NAV. Here are some of the key functions that SFC 2.0 offers:

  • Ability to fetch data from NAV concerning any job at any detail level, as well as report cards, material acquisition, list over materials running out as well as access Gantt graphs. All these can also be printed directly from inside SFC 2.0.
  • Ability to fetch any links from NAV.
  • Time sharing for multiple jobs any one user runs at the same time.
  • Horizon settings where you can define a horizon for 30 days ahead and filter the jobs shown for this period.
  • Define and apply unique filters for any user to filter available jobs.
  • User group support where a group manager can control an entire team’s jobs and everything this user does affects the users in the group. E.g. defining a whole group’s jobs by a single user where the subordinate users only need to log in to the user group.
  • Extremely friendly and easy-to-use graphical user interface.
  • Fully customizable user interface, enabling change of color settings, column re-ordering, changeable font size and show/hide any columns.
  • Barcode support.
  • Multi-language support.
  • Fetch reports and links from NAV directly from SFC.
  • Full duplex messaging system for communication between NAV and the clients (including e-mail support).
  • No dependency of IIS.
  • Event-driven WCF-service running only in NAV.
  • Real-time connectivity.
  • Extensibility and customization for customer needs.”

As with the entire Dynamics line, NAV enjoys the popularity it has as much because of its extensibility as what ships out-of-the-box. These are just a few of the many add-ons that are designed specifically for the target markets that NAV is aimed at. If your company relies on Dynamics NAV, and is in the retail or manufacturing markets, take a look at what these add-ons have to offer.
